Dongba paper is a traditional handmade paper, originating from the Naxi ethnic group in Yunnan Province, China. It’s made from canescent wikstroemia, a locally-grown shrub, which is a special and magic plant that contains a toxin could effectively inhibit the growth of bacteria, but would not affect people’s health after processing, that’s the reason why it can keep its shape for thusands of years, very durable.

No matter for watercolor sketchbook, junk journal, or for photo album, this notebook will be a great choice to keep your creation in good conservation and will have a extremely long life.

The first page of each notebook will be handwritten and stamped in Dongba words by local people for sending their good blessing to everyone who have it. In order to ensuring its unique of each book, the words you received may not the same as the photo shown.

The process of making Dongba paper is intricate and involves many steps to ensure its unique qualities, such as being mothproof and resistant to natural erosion. It went throught peeling the skin, soaking for several days, boiling, washing, hammering, drying then eventually calendering.

Stalks and leaves of the plant can still be seen, if you scrutinize the paper in sunlight. This paper is especially known for its use in writing ancient Dongba scriptures and is recognized as part of China’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Dongba paper is also excellent for calligraphy, drawing and painting, and especially good for watercolour, acrylics and gouache paints.

Due to totally handmade, the weight and quantity of page may not very accurate. Each journal sketchbook has approx 110 pages inside, pages are hand connected with hemp rope.

Which shipping company do we ship with?

Mainly ship by 4PX worldwide express company, if remote areas that they cannot reach out, then will be shipped by post mail as a replacement. Sometimes ship by Fedex, or UPS if any needed.

How much does shipping cost?

The shipping cost is depending on the weight of parcel. In order to make transaction easier, YouAreTheUnique usually charge only $6 or $8 for majority orders depending on items, actually the shipping cost is higher than that. We will cover the extra shipping cost.

Do I have to pay shipping to return my order?

When a customer wishes to return or make an exchange, we kindly ask that the customer covers the shipping cost to return the order.

How long does it take to get my order?

Order will ship from China, it arrives to US / EU / Asian countries within 8 - 15 business days once the order is shipped, to other countries are about 10-20 business days, sometimes longer. During the holidays, you may experience delays and longer shipping times.

Can I expedite my order?

Who is responsible for duties & VAT?

Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, and Japan are all delivered duties paid (DDP).

All other international countries are delivered duties unpaid (DDU).

Please note, once you receive your tracking #, please keep your eyes out for the package. If the Post Office attempts delivery and fails to get you the order resulting in the package getting returned to us, you will be responsible for the postage to reship the order.
